The magnesia-refractories industry of refired magnesia is a typical resource-based industry. Since China's reform and opening up in the 1980s, the rapid increase in the demand for magnesite raw materials has resulted in a low entry threshold for the processing of primary raw materials, leading to serious damage to the rational development of magnesite. For economic reasons, the price of a magnesite superore is about five times that of a grade III ore. Extensive mining, rich mining and poor abandoned serious phenomenon, resulting in a great waste of resources, and more serious is mining and stripping imbalance. In 2005, the author participated in the "point survey" of 12 key magnesite mountains in Liaoning province, and estimated that the debt for rock stripping at that time was more than 100 million tons. Since then, the situation has not fundamentally changed, resulting in difficulties in the mining of some high-quality ores. In recent years, superfine ore in the original sense has been very rare, and there is a shortage of primary ore. The ore quality landslide results in the decrease of average MgO content of magnesia by more than 0.5%.
Therefore, in order to make rational and effective use of limited resources, relevant laws and regulations must be earnestly implemented. It is necessary to further integrate magnesite mountains and old mines with an annual mining capacity of more than 300,000 tons, implement scale mining and intensive management. Make a thorough survey of existing mining areas and conduct mining according to the mining design. Key mines shall make up for the arrears of rock stripping and extend the service life of mines; Popularize ore dressing technology and make comprehensive use of medium and low grade ore. At present, relevant enterprises have gradually realized that it is no longer possible to maintain the production of high-quality raw materials by relying only on raw materials. Only by dressing and purifying the raw ore can we produce the primary raw material of high quality and ensure the normal production of raw material. Following the successful launch of the flotation system in Haicheng Magnesium Mine General Plant, a number of enterprises have completed flotation projects, and other enterprises have also begun to prepare. Meanwhile, the comprehensive utilization of flotation tailings is also being studied.
In the next three to five years, the popularization of magnesite flotation technology and the follow-up processing of high-purity Mg (OH) 2 produced by xizang cryptocrystalline magnesite and Qinghai "Yanghu Magnesite extraction" will provide high-quality raw material supply guarantee for China's magnesite production.
Due to the competitive price of Chinese fused magnesite, many western magnesite manufacturers have gone out of business. At present, China accounts for 90% of the MgO content of >98.5% fused magnesia in the world market, and its application is more extensive. However, this product is high in energy consumption and requires superior raw materials. Therefore, it will be helpful to reduce energy consumption and control quality by comprehensively promoting improved technical equipment measures in the electrofused magnesia industry, which is an inevitable trend of future development.
